Beija Flo is a true polymath pulling together elements of activism, performance art and education
Beija Flo is a true polymath. She has created her own universe by pulling together elements of activism, performance art and education. Genre bending, her sound is one that encompasses everything from open hearted balladry to acerbic punk. Tackling love and relationships, mental and sexual health, she is truly an artist for our times, juxtaposing her darkest moments against those of enduring hope. Her songs tell her stories. They let us in to her magical world and teach us not to be fearless, but to wear our insecurities like war paint. To accept our differences, embrace our similarities and to live our lives as true and as colourful as possible.
To witness Beija Flo live is an unforgettable experience. Songs, performance and costumes aside she provokes a conversation that many would shy away from. She discovered that she was born with MRKH Syndrome when she was in her late teens and as a young woman realised there was little in the way of support or even relevant information to help her come to terms with what this meant for her. Her reality is weaved through her music and the stories she shares with her growing audience.
There will be a spoken word performance from Beija Flo in one of our gallery spaces.
